Bout 4: Mile Die Club vs Road Train Rollers

29 May 2010

Both teams have one bout under their belts this year and are hungry for their first win of the season, and this bout starts out with some super tight skating and low scores. Fifteen minutes in and the scores are almost even, with MDC on 21 to the RTR on 20. Despite both teams taking turns to hold the other back, grand slams from jammers on both teams keep edging the points upwards to the half time scores MDC 35 to RTR 43. That’s not enough of a lead to make anyone relax and both teams come out fired up in the second half. Great pack organisation from the Roadies keeps scattering the Dies and helps Roadie jammers scoot past. Some outstanding MDC jamming and a few trips to the box for Roadie jammers sees the Dies rally to close the gap to only four points at around eight minutes left on the clock. Things get a little crazy on the track about this time, with some interesting technicalities, but the Roadies play a stronger game at the end and maintain their lead to take out the win by eleven points with a final score of MDC 77 to RTR 88.

Bout 3: Wild Hearses vs Road Train Rollers

8 May 2010

With a victory already under their belts, the Wild Hearses went into this bout looking strong and confident; however, the Road Train Rollers, even with team stalwart Vaderella out due to injury, are a bunch of tough cookies and not easily intimidated. From the start, the Roadies came out hard, making the most of their trademark strong teamwork and tough-guy jammers, proving the Hearses would have their hands full with their latest rival. Brawny defensive work from both teams made for a close, thrilling first half, with the teams almost matching each other jam for jam in points, and the lead changing a number of times. A nifty double grand slam in the last jam before halftime saw the Hearses tip the score in their favour, 42 to 36. Six points is by no means a comfortable lead against any team, let alone one renowned for their comebacks, so heading into the second half the game was still well and truly anyone’s. And the second half proved to be just as nail-bitingly close as the first. True to form, the Roadies burst from the change rooms full of fight, first levelling the scores and then pulling ahead. And at less than five minutes on the clock, the scores were an even 65. But in the final few minutes the Hearses raced the track with back-to-back grand slams to reclaim the lead in emphatic fashion and steam ahead to take out the game 90 WH : 70 RTR.

Bout 2: Mile Die Club vs Salty Dolls

2 May 2010

A bout between the Mile Die Club and the Salty Dolls, ADRD’s original rivals, is always fierce, and this one is no exception. Those lovely leopard winners from last year face off in their first bout for 2010 against delicious dolls thirsty for that familiar taste of victory after last season’s dry spell. Both teams start out aggressively, but with one bout under their belts already this season, the Salty Dolls play a stronger team game, taking the lead by half time. In the second half, the MDC come out firing from the change rooms ready to turn the heat up a notch or two… but so do the Salties! A few jams into the second half, the Dies pull out a series of point-scoring manouevres that start cutting back the Salty lead. But the Salties can’t be rattled for long and soon take control of the pack again. Although the intensity doesn’t stop until the final whistles, with the two teams showing each other some good, hard derby loving, concrete kisses included, points-wise the Salty Dolls end up taking a comfortable win to the after party, with a final score of 104 SD : 72 MDC.
